TOTAL MILEAGE FOR 2016 - 1692.4
I am working my mileage up gradually in pursuit of the goal of riding 100 miles in one day this fall. As part of this process, today I did my longest ride yet—50 miles, or six consecutive round trips to Marsh Park.
Yesterday a low-hanging branch across the trail snagged one of my rear flags, or spinners, and ripped it out, breaking the cord that attaches it to the pole. Though I found it and thought I had taped it back in place securely, this morning within the first mile of my ride, yet another branch tore it back off.
In the early part of the ride, I was sharing the trail with members of Run Ann Arbor, and several of them, upon seeing my empty pole, informed me, "Hey, I saw your flag back there!" And I thought I knew about where it had come off. However, late in the ride, when I looked for it, I couldn't find it. I have ordered a replacement.
Anyway, today's ride was a good test for me, pushing myself to do those six round trips. I began at 5:30 (these early morning hours are my favorite time of the day) in bracing 43° conditions, and by the time I had finished, it had climbed to 70°.
Following is a schedule I've worked up to aid me in the pursuit of my goal.
